  • DEME to install cables at OranjeWind offshore wind farm.
  • Project includes 114km of cabling and secondary steel installations.
  • Pre-sweeping in sand wave areas ensures cable stability.
  • Operations scheduled for the latter half of 2026.

Belgian contractor DEME has been awarded a contract to transport and install inter-array cables and secondary steel structures for the 800MW OranjeWind offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. The project, a collaboration between RWE and TotalEnergies, is located 53km off the Dutch coast in the North Sea and is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026.

As part of the contract, DEME will handle 114km of cabling to connect all 53 wind farm foundations to an offshore substation. The work also includes transporting & installing secondary steel components, like boat landings and access platforms.

Initial pre-sweeping will be conducted to clear sand waves, ensuring the cables are buried at correct depth for optimal stability. In areas like the substation and other asset crossings, rock stabilization will be used to secure the cables.

Philip Scheers, general manager of subsea power cables at DEME, noted the company’s expertise and resources for offshore wind. “Our specialized fleet and equipment position us well to complete this project successfully and support RWE and TotalEnergies’ vision for a sustainable energy future.”

DEME’s offshore and cable installation fleet will be deployed for the project, including vessels, a hopper dredger, and other supporting equipment. This contract marks DEME’s fourth major cable project recently, adding to its agreements for offshore grid systems at TenneT’s IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1, as well as the high-voltage cable supply for Princess Elisabeth Island in the Belgian North Sea.
