  • Cadeler will order 64 offshore turbines and foundations for the 960MW East Anglia 2 wind farm.
  • Orders in the range of €360M to €382M from ScottishPower Renewables.
  • Offshore installation is set to begin in 2027, on board A-class and O-class vessels of Cadeler.
  • Project to supply green electricity to almost one million UK homes.

As an offshore installation specialist, Cadeler has secured firm contracts for installing 64 15 MW wind turbines and foundations at the ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia 2 (EA2) offshore wind farm. The installation of that project is to be carried out off the UK coast beginning in 2027.

Cadeler’s contract valued between €360 million to €382 million will ensure the company’s place in its market as a full-service provider in the installation of offshore wind turbines. It will use a newbuild A-class vessel and an O-class vessel from its stock to execute the EA2 project, which is one of the 960MW clean energy projects in the Southern North Sea.

The UK government recently announced the result of its 2024 offshore wind farm auction that saw it award crucial contracts to projects such as EA2, worth an estimated £4 billion. The wind farm forms part of a comprehensive development plan for the region of East Anglia that will help provide green electricity for nearly a million homes.

According to Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, this contract will enable Cadeler to strengthen its strategic focus areas in making complex projects for offshore wind more flexible and operationally efficient. “With our six newbuilds on their way, Cadeler will deliver even greater flexibility and offer still improved efficiency for our clients,” said Gleerup. He also said that the EA2 contract is an expression of strong market positioning and the continuous commitment of Cadeler in renewable offshore wind energy.

ScottishPower Renewables, part of the Iberdrola Group, has been working on the advancement of the EA2 project since winning the government auction. The CEO of ScottishPower Renewables, Charlie Jordan, welcomed the partnership with Cadeler, noting that the contract further solidifies East Anglia’s position as a hub for offshore wind development.

“East Anglia is the heart of our offshore wind operations in the UK,” said Jordan, pointing out that the project will provide clean energy to nearly a million homes.

Preparations are under way, and the EA2 wind farm is anticipated to have a huge influence on transforming the UK into a greener energy future.
